SENCo Training

We are working with Nasen to raise awareness and improve education for students with special educational needs through a series of twilight workshops designed for SENCos, TAs and teachers. Nasen (National Association of Special Educational Needs) is a charity organisation which supports thousands of practitioners by providing relevant information, training and resources to enable staff to meet all pupils’ needs.

Each session will focus on a particular aspect that SENCos deal with on a regular basis, and will be broken down as follows:

SEMH

  • Explore the key issues in schools (what we mean by SEMH and the shift in thinking and practice from BESD) and begin to audit current practice
  • Consider how to build and sustain a therapeutic school environment (the SEMH role of the school and practical strategies for school-based interventions)
  • Understand the range of social emotional and mental health needs of children and young people
  • Consider the barriers to learning these needs may lead to
  • Consider approaches which can support children and young people with SEMH needs

SLCN

  • Understanding typical development and milestones
  • Knowing how to identify difficulties/needs (including being alert to CYP with seemingly better expressive than receptive language)
  • Being able to plan to meet identified needs and create language rich environments
